Wow. Look how long it's been since I've made an entry in this piece of crap. I've said it before and I shall say it again, Livejournal is better than Xanga.

Anyway, for those of you who only have Xangas instead of LJs, I just wanted to let you know that I am now in SCarowinds, and my weekends are going to be spent scaring people instead of hanging out at NX.

Last night Blake and I played about an hour and a half to maybe two hours of In the Groove. Needless to say both of us are in agreement about how much the game sucks and how most of the music is mediocre at best. I honestly was expecting to be blown away since mostly everyone I know who's even played it can't stop raving about it; however, note that most of those who do rave about the game are the same folks who can play PSMO without breaking a sweat and they want something ridiculously hard.

I played more ITG today before I made my way over here to make sure that I wouldn't forget anything in my rant about the game.

I'll start with the pros of the game.

+ Some of the music is decent.
Of course, I think Missing Heart and E-Rotic are wonderful, though I heard their music before I ever heard of ITG. One of my favorite songs from MH/E-Rotic is "Queen of Light." The songs by Crispy are good; in fact Blake and I played "The Game" many times because he has such a hard on for that song. Walking on Fire, some of the stuff by Nina, Zodiac, Euphoria, and Kagami are good. That's it.

+ It's something new.
I have yet to get tired of Extreme, though most have complained about how long it's been since Konami released a new mix. This does provide an alternative.

+ The "Hard" steps make sense.
Most of the Hard step charts (which would be about the same difficulty as DDR's Heavy) flow fine with the song. There's only one instance I experienced when I thought the Expert steps were better than the Hard steps (That would be that uh... Folk song thing.. the one that sounds like something you'd hear in a pirate movie).

+ The bar on the top of the screen which tells you how far along the song is.
So, as I am dying while playing something stupidly hard, I can now tell how much more torture I have to endure before it all ends.

And now the cons which outnumber the pros.

- The loading time is attrocious.
This is hands down the worst part of the home version of ITG. I guess I've been spoiled by DDR's timely loading for songs and scores. There's a loading screen for each song you pick, hitting the start button in order to mod stuff, getting your scores (You Rock!), getting to each of the options of the options stuff at the beginning of the game... it's annoying as fuck. I pointed this out to Blake: Did you guys also notice that there's what appears to be a loading bar (as to tell how far along the loading is going) right after you pick songs and yet.. it doesn't work? Why is it there if the programmers decided not to utilize it? Or maybe they did, and they are just lazy.

- The guys who make the stepcharts sure do love some triplets.
There are triplets in almost every song on Expert. It gets retarded at times. Sure DDR has them, but not in every damn song. What sucks more is that there are places where triplets are placed, and it doesn't seem like they should be there. It's like whoever made the stepchart wanted it to be harder and the only way it could be acomplished would be by filling up the song with triplets. It's innovation...

- Majority of the music is bland, crappy, or just plain mediocre.
I don't know about you guys, but when I am playing a dancing game, I like some funk or at least a beat to step to. I love love love love LOVE trance, but sometimes it's hard to dance to trance. Trance doesn't always have bass or some standout drum beat, hence, it makes it hard to make a stepchart to something with no obvious beat. Also whoever thought that Vanilla Ninja, Dax, and Sammi Morelli can sing needs to be shot. All those songs by those artists alone suck so much more than Daikenkai or any other played out n00b song on DDR. Smiley face thing's songs are hit and miss (for me one hit "Euphoria" and the rest misses.. just bland). McFrontalot is a watered down Will Smith with lame lame lame lyrics to boot. It just doesn't seem like there's a great variety of music styles in ITG. Also.. that song Crazy by Dj Doo? The chorus is the same as the song "Video Killed the Radio Star." Credit to Andie for pointing that one out.

- Expert stepfiles are retarded.
I like playing songs that have fun stepcharts and are a little challenging. I don't like playing stuff that's just purposely made to be retardedly hard... like the Maxes, the paranoias, etc. Most of the stuff that I have passed that's hard 9's or whatever I haven't touched since I passed them because they are not fun. *shrugs* Trying to stomp on 400+ arrows in a 300 bpm song just isn't fun. The Expert stepcharts are so full of fucking arrows with machine gun steps and triplets galore that I have to put the fucking song I am trying to play on at least 2.5x so I can actually READ IT. That's quite a jump in speed mods since I never go above 1.5 in DDR.

- Combo's continuing...
Seriously? What's the point of the combo you had in the first song continuing on to the next song? That puzzles me.

- Backgrounds are dull.
I guess I do like those bright happy colors in DDR. ITG's backgrounds are so dark and blah. I've never been distracted by the backgrounds in DDR... so why make them so unnoticeable in ITG?

- Handplants and mines are dumb.
^ My opinion of course. Handplants are what keep me away from PIU.. and mixing handplants AND mines in a song? Retarded. Blake and I tried to play through a song that had both. There were points where you were supposed to hit so many arrow at one time and thrown into the mix were mines. At several points I saw mines on all directions at one time.

The only appeal that I can see from ITG is that it is so much harder than DDR. Most of the people I've seen rave about it and say how awesome it is are the same people who can AAA 10 footers and catas. ITG caters to that audience. I can't imagine attempting that stuff on my CF at home without being afraid of busting my ass from the crazy stepfiles. DDR on the other hand caters to a larger audience. Almost all the stuff on any version of DDR (save the 10s IMO) can be done at home on a CF or some other awesome pad.

I do hope that ITG prompts Konami to release more arcade versions. ITG has the potential to get better, but now it's just an overhyped bland game. That's right... OVERHYPED. I know the vast majority of you don't agree with me.

So Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance is going to have online game play features. I just found my cd to get my adapter to work for my PS2.

What does mean mes amis? This means we ALL (well, those who were willing) must play MGS3 together. The one that seems like it would be really fun would be where one of us was Snake and the rest of us were nondescript guards and the guards must stop Snake.

Also, are any of you still playing Resident Evil: Outbreak online? I think Justin spoke of it once. I really want to take advantage of the online capabilities of my PS2.

No Madden or shitty racing games like Gran Turismo plz. :)

- The song that's played when you are in the main room of the RPD.

Yeah yeah, I know I haven't updated this thing in forever. I haven't even been to Xanga in a while because I prefer Livejournal.

I do want to put this to good use though. I probably won't be making to many personal entries in this thing anymore. If you really want to know what's going on and the like, come to LJ. :)

This is just going to be used now as a tool for lurking and commenting in Xangas. I will also discuss gaming in here. Yeah... that sounds like a winner. Gaming! And stuff. ;)

And the first game I will go into detail about is Resident Evil 2. I'll do it as soon as I am done beating the Claire A and Leon B scenarios - I've already conquered Leon A and Claire B.

Adieu.
